In preparation for an adventure, one should always create a movie playlist. This is a list of my top picks for adventures about survival, the wilderness, Alaska, big foot, and having a gung-ho, adventurous and imaginative outlook towards life.
Don Quixote
The movie version with John Lithgowe. John Lithgowe is perfect for this role. Every outing becomes an adventure if you remember to bring your imagination and create your own reality. Life is more fun when you enjoy and embrace your dementia and craziness. When I grow up, I want to be like Don Quixote.
The Edge
This movie features Sir Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin- awesome movie about survival, betrayal and wisdom.
Harry and the Hendersons
Since Bigfoot vacations in Alaska. I don’t know why people forget to add this movie to their list. Also a John Lithgowe film.
Into the Wild
We’ll be traveling to Bus 142 outside of Denali, so at some point I know I’ll watch it again.
Insomnia
– Robin Williams murder mystery? I don’t recall how it ends but remember it being creepy.
Grizzly Man
-An interesting movie about a bear loving idiot with a lisp who eventually earns a Darwin award but you don’t get to watch it. If you’ve seen it, this guy reminds me of the “Leave Brittany Alone” guy. Still Interesting.
Jeremiah Johnson
– Robert Redford with a beard and an attitude to survive. Awesome.
Without A Paddle
-A survival comedy and the only one that comes to mind.
The River Wild
-Kevin Bacon is the bad guy.
The Bear
-A story of an orphaned bear cub befriended and protected by an adult male grizzly as hunters pursue them through the wilderness.
Dances with Wolves
-One word “tatonka ”
Alone in the Wilderness
-A well narrated movie about a man who built a cabin and lived in the remote Twin Lakes region of Alaska for 35 years and documented his journey on film and writing. This is a new favorite of mine.
